On Netflix, multiple profiles with individual user preferences can be created under one account. This is where a change is being implemented. Netflix is gradually introducing log-ins with individual email addresses for regular profiles. Therefore, anyone using multiple profiles should ensure each has a permanently accessible email address.
New Requirement Introduced Since Mid-June
The change was not officially announced but was first discovered by the tech portal “Ars Technica.” During a test, a corresponding notice appeared when opening a profile. Upon inquiry, Netflix confirmed the update. Since June 15, 2026, the requirement has been gradually introduced. It applies to all regular profiles within an account, which must now be linked to their own email addresses. However, nothing changes for children’s profiles; they remain exempt from the rule.
What Will Change for Users
According to Netflix, the new rule is intended to simplify profile management. Previously, profiles within a shared account primarily served to separate recommendations, history, and personal settings. With the additional email address, a regular profile will now be more directly associated with a specific person. However, this does not create a separate Netflix account.
Netflix states that this will simplify logging in on new devices, among other things. Additionally, users can more easily recover their profiles and manage certain settings themselves, such as audio settings and subtitle display. The detour via the account’s central email address will also be eliminated for issues with logging in or receiving confirmation codes.

Not All Profiles Belong to Individual People
The new rule may not necessarily lead to more convenience in every case. Some users create additional profiles to organize content separately, such as for series, movies, or documentaries. In these cases, the requirement for a unique email address means additional effort.

Nevertheless, the linkage ensures that a profile can be more clearly assigned to a person. This continues a course Netflix has already been pursuing. For instance, the sharing of login credentials outside one’s household has been restricted. Netflix is also paying closer attention to who is actually using an account.
What Users Should Keep in Mind
Once Netflix displays the prompt, the provided email address should be permanently accessible. Otherwise, logging in, recovering the profile, or making future changes may become difficult. Therefore, it is recommended to use an address for each regular profile that the respective person can permanently access. This is especially true for households where multiple profiles have been managed through a shared account address.
