Nowadays, almost every technical device is smart in some way thanks to many features. However, this also means they must constantly stay updated with software. Over time, this results in older models losing support. Soon, Sony will see apps for streaming and other modern features disappear. The list of affected devices is long.

Sony Audio and Video Devices Lose Streaming

As reported by sources such as “Hifi.de,” it mainly affects older Sony audio and video devices that will soon lose streaming and other online functions. Specifically, this includes numerous Blu-ray players, AV receivers, and soundbars. Additionally, wireless speakers, media players, home theater systems, and audio and micro component systems will soon be less smart.

Users of Sony devices will no longer be able to use streaming services like Amazon Prime Video or Netflix. Spotify, Pandora, Slacker Radio, and Vudu will also disappear. The Japanese company has apologized to customers for this step but is sticking to the plan.

Nevertheless, all offline core functions remain unaffected. A Blu-ray player will still play discs.

These Sony Devices Are Affected

The changes will take effect on November 18, 2026. Until then, owners can use the products as usual. After that, even the menu icons will disappear.
