A recent update of Microsoft Outlook for macOS is causing problems for many users. After installing version 16.110, email reply threads disappear. As a result, existing conversations are only partially displayed. According to reports, both new email conversations and existing message threads are affected. A temporary solution is now available for users.
Issue affects replies and forwards
With Outlook version 16.110 for macOS, a bug occurs where the previous thread of an email is no longer displayed in replies. Instead of the embedded original text, this area remains empty. This affects not only new messages but also older conversations.
As reported by the online magazine “The Register,” users are also experiencing difficulties when forwarding emails. Without the original message content, this function loses a significant part of its utility. The bug can significantly complicate daily work with the email program.

Currently, there is only a temporary solution
An official statement from Microsoft is not yet available. However, the issue has been confirmed by a moderator on the Microsoft Learn platform, who is identified as an external employee.
There is currently no patch to fix the bug. However, users can temporarily revert to the previous Outlook version 16.109.3. This allows the issue to be bypassed until Microsoft provides a permanent solution. Those who choose this route should also disable automatic updates. Otherwise, the faulty version 16.110 could be reinstalled directly.

Enterprise users have limited options
The described solution is mainly suitable for private users. In enterprise environments, the situation is more challenging. Devices are often centrally managed by administrators, so users cannot independently switch to older program versions.
Those affected in companies should therefore contact their IT departments. Alternatively, they can only wait until Microsoft releases an official patch and resolves the issue with the missing email threads.
