Artificial intelligence is increasingly becoming a tool for specific tasks in digital everyday life. Claude from Anthropic can now not only draft messages in Gmail but also send them directly upon request. The feature is designed to enable replies to existing emails. By default, the assistant asks for confirmation before sending, but this security check can be disabled for certain accounts.
AI systems are no longer just applications for tech enthusiasts. They write texts, summarize long documents, schedule appointments, and assist in writing messages. For many users, this support has become a natural part of digital everyday life.
Claude Takes on New Tasks in Gmail
With Claude, a new function is now added. The AI assistant from Anthropic can not only prepare emails in Gmail but also send them directly upon request. The announcement was made via the official Claude account on X.
Users can instruct Claude, for example, to reply to an existing email. The assistant then creates the message and can send it afterward. Claude does not act independently, as the user must specify which email to respond to.

Security Check Is Not Always Mandatory
By default, Claude asks for confirmation before sending. This prompt is intended to prevent a message from being sent unintentionally. However, for team and enterprise accounts, it is optional and can be turned off.
If the confirmation is disabled, Claude sends emails without further approval. This can be a risk because AI agents are not error-free. A faulty message could quickly end up with the wrong recipient.
In Gmail, Claude can do more than just send emails. The assistant can search messages, organize the inbox, and manage email threads. However, there is a limit with attachments, as Claude only sees file information and cannot read the content.

The direct sending by an AI is not entirely new. ChatGPT from OpenAI can also create and send messages directly via a connected Gmail or Outlook account. Whether confirmation is needed beforehand depends on the respective permissions.
With Google’s Gemini in Gmail, the process works differently so far. The AI can draft new messages or replies, but the user must click “Send” afterward. It is similar with Copilot in Outlook, where Microsoft’s AI creates the draft and the user handles the sending.
