The MacBook Neo is Apple’s most affordable entry into the notebook world. However, just a few months after its launch, indications of a successor are becoming more concrete. Those considering a purchase might be better off waiting a bit longer.

With the MacBook Neo, Apple positioned a notebook significantly below the classic MacBook Air models for the first time in early 2026. The device launched at 699 euros but now costs 799 euros. Nevertheless, it remains the most affordable way for many users to enter the Apple ecosystem.
Now, well-connected Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman reports that Apple is already working on a second generation. The so-called MacBook Neo 2 is expected to address several weaknesses of the current model while significantly boosting performance. Prospective buyers might therefore question whether an immediate purchase is worthwhile.
While Apple has not yet confirmed the information, Gurman is considered one of the most reliable sources for upcoming Apple products. His reports have often proven accurate in the past.

MacBook Neo 2 with More RAM and New Chip
The biggest criticism of the current model for many users is the relatively limited memory. According to the report, Apple plans to address this by increasing the RAM from the current 8 to 12 gigabytes. This could allow the MacBook Neo 2 to perform much more smoothly, especially with multiple applications open simultaneously or during more demanding tasks. Such a move would be quite remarkable for an entry-level device.
Additionally, Apple is expected to replace the current A18 Pro chip with the newer A19 Pro. This would not only provide higher computing power but also likely improvements in energy efficiency and AI tasks. If the information is confirmed, the Neo 2 would be far more than a minor model update. Instead, Apple could give its most affordable notebook a noticeable performance boost.

Fresh Colors and a Possible Launch in 2027
Not only is the technical equipment expected to be revised, but Apple also apparently plans changes in design. Currently, the MacBook Neo is available in yellow, silver, pink, and blue. Which new colors might be added and whether existing variants will be discontinued remains open. The report does not provide specific details.
There is also no official date for the presentation yet. Since the first MacBook Neo was only released in March 2026, a presentation in spring 2027 currently seems plausible. Those who do not need a new notebook immediately might benefit from a bit of patience.
