Apple is already planning the second generation of its most affordable laptop. The next MacBook Neo is expected to be released in the first half of 2027, possibly as early as March. The first model hit the market in March 2026. It is primarily aimed at students and users who use their laptops for browsing, word processing, and other everyday tasks.
More Memory and a New Chip
According to Mark Gurman from “Bloomberg,” the MacBook Neo 2027 will feature the A19 Pro chip. Apple also uses this chip in the iPhone 17 Pro. The current MacBook Neo, on the other hand, is equipped with the A18 Pro. Additionally, the memory is expected to increase from 8 to 12 GB. This would give the new model more capacity for multiple open programs and more demanding applications.
The expansion is also relevant for modern AI functions in macOS. Many of these functions require at least 12 GB of memory. The current model, with its 8 GB, can reach its limits. According to the report, Apple also plans to offer more colors. The current MacBook Neo is available in silver, pastel pink, citrus yellow, and indigo.
Apple Resumes Production–Will the MacBook Neo Get More Expensive?
Insider Reveals First Details on MacBook Neo 2
Higher Entry Price Expected
The first MacBook Neo launched in March 2026 in Germany at 699 euros. This price was for the version with 256 GB of storage. In June, Apple increased the entry price to 799 euros. The reason for the adjustment is the increased cost of components–especially memory. The model with 512 GB of storage and Touch ID currently costs 899 euros.
Due to the planned expansion to twelve GB of memory, the MacBook Neo 2027 could become more expensive again. Observers consider at least 850 euros for the base version likely. Fluctuating memory prices make it difficult for Apple to calculate.
Who Should Wait
For office applications, emails, word processing, and browsing, the current MacBook Neo is sufficient in many cases. A purchase in November or December 2026 can therefore be sensible if 8 GB of memory is enough.

Waiting for the new model is especially worthwhile for those with higher memory needs. Twelve GB offers more flexibility for multiple programs and future software, but it is likely to increase the price by at least 50 to 100 euros.
Alongside the new MacBook Neo, Apple is also planning a revision of the MacBook Air for the first half of 2027. This model is expected to be equipped with the M6 chip.
