Spotify is expanding its apps for Android and iOS with several features that were previously only available in the desktop version. The focus is on new ways to organize content and additional tools for managing playlists. The new features are currently being rolled out worldwide and should be available to many users soon.
Playlist Folders Now on Smartphones
Spotify is introducing playlist folders in its mobile apps. This allows playlists to be structured and sorted directly on the smartphone. Users can now organize their playlists into folders by mood, genre, or activity.
The feature was previously exclusive to the desktop version. With the expansion to Android and iOS, collections can now be organized more clearly on the go. Spotify is bringing a familiar desktop feature to mobile devices, simplifying the management of larger playlist libraries.

More Options for Editing Content
Spotify is also expanding editing options within playlists. According to the online magazine “Heise,” users can now select and edit multiple tracks at once. The update is not limited to music tracks.
Podcast episodes and audiobooks can also be managed this way. According to Spotify, the corresponding update is currently being rolled out. Users gain more control over their playlist content and can make adjustments more quickly.

Additional features are available for premium subscribers. They once again have the ability to manage multiple tracks within the queue collectively. This allows multiple entries to be organized simultaneously without having to edit each track individually.
New Features for iPhone Users
Further changes are primarily aimed at premium customers on iOS. In the future, music and podcasts can be downloaded in the background. The app does not need to remain open for this.
During a download, progress indicators show the current status. Users can track how far the respective transfer has progressed at any time.
Also new is an additional button for shuffle play. This button allows the order of the played content to be reshuffled.
Spotify is currently rolling out the updates worldwide. However, it may take some time before all features reach users. Whether individual features are already available depends, among other things, on how up-to-date the installed version of the respective app is.
