Those who didn’t automatically opt for the latest iPhone model could often save money in the past. After a new generation of devices was introduced, older versions typically became cheaper at Apple. However, this time that’s not the case. Instead, the manufacturer has raised the prices of several already available iPhones. Depending on the model and storage capacity, the increase varies. In some cases, the Californians are charging several hundred euros more than before.
iPhone Air with a Particularly Large Price Jump
The prices rise most significantly for the iPhone Air. The version with 256 gigabytes of storage now costs 1,299 euros. Previously, the price was around 1,200 euros.
Versions with more storage are also becoming more expensive. For the model with 512 gigabytes, Apple now charges 1,549 euros instead of around 1,450 euros. Those opting for the version with one terabyte of storage now pay 2,049 euros. Previously, the price was around 1,700 euros. This results in a difference of about 350 euros.
Price increases are also seen with the iPhone 17e. Although it remains the cheapest iPhone that Apple offers, buyers now have to pay more. The version with 256 gigabytes of storage now costs 849 euros instead of around 700 euros. For the model with 512 gigabytes, the price is now 1,099 euros. The increase is about 150 euros.

Not only the iPhone Air and iPhone 17e are becoming more expensive. Prices are also rising for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 17.
The iPhone 16 with 128 gigabytes of storage now costs 999 euros in the Apple Store. Previously, the price was around 850 euros. For the iPhone 17 with 256 gigabytes of storage, the price rises from around 950 to 1,099 euros. The version with 512 gigabytes now costs 1,349 euros. Previously, the price was around 1,200 euros.

The price changes follow immediately after Apple’s major presentation of the latest iPhone generation. At the same time, the company is changing its offerings in its online store. The iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max are no longer sold there. Those who want to buy one of these devices will have to turn to other retailers.
Tim Cook Had Announced Price Increases
The development is not entirely unexpected. The then-active Apple CEO Tim Cook had already pointed to rising costs in a June interview with the “Wall Street Journal.” He cited higher expenses for memory chips and other components as the reason. Therefore, price increases were “inevitable,” Cook explained.
According to Cook, Apple tried not to pass the increased costs entirely onto customers. However, the Apple CEO did not specify which devices would be affected, when the adjustments would occur, or how high the price increases might be.
