After months of speculation, it’s official: Apple has unveiled the iPhone 17e. The new model complements the current iPhone generation and is positioned below the regular version and the Pro models.
With the 17e, Apple is once again pursuing the strategy of offering modern technology at a slightly lower entry price. The device incorporates key components of the current generation but makes selective cuts to maintain the gap with the more expensive variants. We show where Apple makes compromises and where the iPhone 17e stands on par with the larger models.
A19 Chip with Minor Graphics Limitation
The iPhone 17e is powered by the A19 chip, the same processor as in the iPhone 17. It has six computing cores and forms the basis for high everyday performance. Differences arise in the graphics: Instead of a five-core GPU like in the iPhone 17, a variant with four graphics cores is used here. This is likely to be noticeable mainly in demanding games or graphics-intensive applications, but hardly in normal operation.
For mobile technology, Apple relies on its proprietary C1X modem. It is said to be twice as fast as the C1 in the iPhone 16e while consuming about 30 percent less energy than the modem in the iPhone 16 Pro. Apple promises a combination of speed and efficiency on the level of current top models.
6.1-Inch Display and 48-Megapixel Camera
The display measures 6.1 inches and has a resolution of 2532 × 1170 pixels. The maximum brightness is up to 1200 candelas per square meter. Technically, the panel largely corresponds to that of the iPhone 16e, but the revised glass cover is new, which is supposed to be more resistant to scratches.
Apple installs a 48-megapixel main camera with Fusion technology. According to the manufacturer, it enables detailed photos and a twofold zoom in optical quality. Features such as night mode, Smart HDR, and portrait shots with depth control are also included. The iPhone 17e records videos in 4K with Dolby Vision.

Qi2 and MagSafe for Faster Charging
Apple is stepping up its charging game. The iPhone 17e supports Qi2 with up to 15 watts of wireless power, previously it was 7.5 watts. New is also the support for MagSafe, allowing magnetic accessories like chargers or cases to dock directly. Apple does not provide specific information on battery capacity. According to the manufacturer, the battery can be charged to up to 50 percent in about 30 minutes.
Prices and Availability
The iPhone 17e starts at 699 euros and comes in the base version with 256 gigabytes of storage. The 512-gigabyte variant costs 949 euros. Apple no longer offers a version with 128 gigabytes. Pre-orders are possible from March 4, with the sales launch planned for March 11.
