Rumors about a foldable Apple device have been circulating for a long time. Now there are new hints, particularly supporting the possible timeline for an iPhone model.
For years, reports about a foldable device from Apple have been making the rounds. Sometimes the focus was on an iPad, sometimes on a MacBook, and repeatedly on an iPhone with a flip or fold mechanism. In recent months, indications of such a smartphone have intensified. Experts currently believe that Apple could unveil the model in September 2026 alongside the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18 Pro. However, the actual market launch is expected to follow only towards the end of the year. A new insider tip now aligns exactly with this anticipated release window.
Test Run Before Possible Mass Production
“Macrumors.com” reports, citing the Chinese tipster “Instant Digital,” that Foxconn has recently started a trial production for the iPhone Fold. Such a step usually occurs before transitioning to mass production. Therefore, it is often seen as a sign that a product could go on sale in the following months. If the information is accurate, a launch in December 2026 would be timely. However, this is not confirmed. Apple has not announced a foldable iPhone yet–nor has it responded to related rumors so far.

Several Details on the Possible Design
Thanks to the leaks, the technical details are becoming clearer: According to the current circulating information, the device is expected to have a 5.5-inch display on the outside. When unfolded, a 7.8-inch screen is supposed to be used inside. This screen is rumored to have a 4:3 aspect ratio, similar to the iPad. With this, Apple would take a different approach with its foldable than many other manufacturers. Additionally, a very thin profile is expected: When unfolded, the device is said to measure only 4.5 millimeters.
Thin Casing Likely with Compromises
To achieve this design, Apple is reportedly not planning to include a triple camera or Face ID. Instead, a fingerprint sensor in the power button might be considered, similar to what Apple already uses in the iPad.

A particular focus is also on the flexible screen. The crease, which remains visible and palpable in many other foldables, is expected to almost disappear in the iPhone Fold. However, there is still no official confirmation for all these details.
