Although the introduction of the iPhone 18 is still some time away, initial hints about Apple’s next smartphone generation are already emerging. The current rumors mainly focus on the camera. Several leaks suggest a significant upgrade for the Pro models. At the same time, alleged images of the device are sparking discussions, as not all photos are believed to be genuine leaks.
Pro Models Could Receive a Major Camera Upgrade
According to information from the reliable leaker “Setsuna Digital,” Apple is expected to significantly revamp the main camera of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Comparison images of dummies already show a noticeably thicker camera module than previous models. The overall casing might also increase in size.
Hints from Apple’s supply chain suggest that the back could be about 2 millimeters thicker. A possible reason is a new variable aperture, which is expected to offer more control over depth of field and light exposure. Additionally, there is speculation about a new 48-megapixel sensor. Whether Apple also plans a larger image sensor for the main camera remains uncertain. The company has not officially confirmed any of this information yet.

Not Every Image Shows a Real Test Device
Alongside the speculations, numerous images purportedly showing the iPhone 18 are spreading on social networks. At first glance, many of these photos seem credible. However, upon closer inspection, there are doubts about their authenticity.
Several of the currently circulating images apparently do not come from test devices but were edited afterward. A creator named AppleLeaker, for example, removed the third camera of an iPhone 17 Pro via image editing to show a possible appearance of the iPhone 18. Such simulations are unproblematic as long as they are appropriately labeled. However, they are often later spread as alleged leaks. Modern AI tools and image editing programs make it increasingly difficult to recognize fakes at first glance.

New Camera Layout Remains Speculation
Regardless of the questionable images, many observers consider changes to the camera design plausible. According to current speculations, Apple might incorporate elements from the iPhone 17 Pro into the iPhone 18, bringing the base model visually closer to the Pro line.
Such a move would not be unusual, as previous Pro features have also been introduced in more affordable models later. Whether Apple will indeed opt for a wide camera bar or choose another approach remains open. According to Setsuna Digital and hints from Apple’s supply chain, the signs are currently pointing to a significantly improved camera for the iPhone 18 Pro models. However, the currently circulating images should be viewed with caution.
