At its event in Cupertino, Apple unveiled the iPhone 17 series. In addition to the innovative and particularly thin iPhone Air, the Pro models stand out with numerous innovations in the camera, battery, and storage.
With today’s presentation of the new iPhone generation, Apple has once again introduced four models, including the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The two models are distinguished by a redesigned exterior. The Pro series not only looks significantly different from its predecessors but also features many new internal components–stronger cameras, improved cooling, more storage, and a significantly larger battery volume are intended to convince users.

New Design Focused on Durability
Since 2020, the design of iPhones has remained largely unchanged–but with the 17 series, Apple brings a fresh breeze. The new camera block is striking, extending as an oval element across the entire back, similar to the Google Pixel 9 Pro. The three camera lenses remain, while the Apple logo and MagSafe ring are positioned slightly lower.
Instead of titanium, aluminum is now used, with the back reinforced with metal and a ceramic shield. The antennas are integrated into the camera block, which is supposed to improve reception. The iPhone 17 Pro Max also has space for a larger battery, increasing the thickness to 8.725 millimeters.

Dimensions in comparison:
- iPhone 17 Pro: 149.63 x 71.44 x 8.75 mm
- iPhone 17 Pro Max: 163.04 x 77.59 x 8.75 mm
- Predecessor iPhone 16 Pro/Pro Max: 8.25 mm thick

Apple remains true to the familiar size distribution for the screens. The iPhone 17 Pro offers a 6.3-inch OLED display, while the Pro Max comes in at 6.9 inches. Both panels support ProMotion with a variable refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, ensuring smoother animations and more responsive operation. The maximum brightness has also been increased compared to the iPhone 16 generation, making content easier to read even in bright sunlight. Thinner bezels and a narrower Dynamic Island complete the visual changes.
Improved Cameras for Photo Enthusiasts
Apple has completely revamped the cameras of the Pro models. All three rear cameras feature 48-megapixel sensors. The telephoto lens offers an eightfold optical zoom, while the main camera has a fourfold zoom function within the sensor. AI technology provides additional image optimization.
The front camera has also been redesigned and now offers 18 megapixels–whether this results in noticeably better selfies remains to be seen. New protective cases are intended to further protect the sensitive lenses from scratches.

More Power with the New A19 Processor
The heart of the new models is the Apple A19 Pro chip, manufactured using a 3-nanometer process. It offers six CPU cores and is expected to increase performance by up to 40 percent.
The RAM has been increased from 8 to 12 gigabytes. In particular, Apple’s AI applications are expected to benefit from the increased RAM. Apple also equips the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max with 256 GB of internal storage as standard. This makes the entry-level configuration larger than previous models, which sometimes started with 128 GB. Additional storage sizes–such as 512 GB or 1 terabyte–have not yet been officially confirmed but are likely to be available as in previous years. Expansion via microSD card is, as usual, not possible.

Largest Battery in an iPhone
There are also innovations in endurance. The iPhone 17 Pro Max features a 5000-mAh battery, the largest ever in an Apple smartphone. Although the new silicon-carbon technology is missing, the charging power via USB-C is at least 35 watts.
The Pro model is somewhat more compact but also equipped with a larger energy storage. Both models also support Wi-Fi 7 and use vapor chamber cooling for better heat dissipation during computationally intensive applications, which has not been used in iPhones before.
Prices, Colors, and Availability
With the iPhone 17 series, Apple sharpens its premium profile. The Pro models score with more power, improved cameras, larger batteries, and modernized design. At the same time, the company is adopting new standards like Wi-Fi 7 and is pushing the transition to eSIM-only in markets such as Germany.

Apple is sticking to its pricing strategy but has slightly increased prices compared to the 16 series:
- iPhone 17 Pro (256 GB): 1,299 euros
- iPhone 17 Pro Max (256 GB): 1,449 euros
Whether the innovations justify this price increase in everyday life will only become apparent in the coming months. The models are available for pre-order from September 12. Sales start on September 19, 2025. Both devices are available in silver, orange, and dark blue.
