After updating to iOS 26, many iPhone users report significant keyboard issues. Instead of functioning as usual, it suddenly outputs incorrect characters or autonomously changes words. Complaints about typos, incorrect corrections, and sluggish response times are piling up in forums and on social media.
According to reports, the difficulties are not caused by a single error but by two different issues. While one of the problems can be solved with a simple trick, those affected by the second issue will likely have to wait for an update from Apple.
Keyboard Outputs Incorrect Characters
Many iPhone owners report that their keyboard suddenly displays incorrect characters. Even though they press the correct keys, different letters appear in the text. Unlike typical autocorrect errors, the cause does not lie in the dictionary but apparently in a faulty input system that misinterprets keystrokes. Neither restarting nor resetting the device seems to fix the problem. A video published on YouTube clearly shows how correct typing leads to incorrect results.

Autocorrect Causes Additional Problems
In addition to faulty input, users complain about inaccurate or overly intrusive autocorrect. In this case, the adaptive dictionary is responsible, becoming “confused” by incorrect entries. As a result, the keyboard independently replaces correctly typed words or responds with delays.
To fix this issue, resetting the dictionary can help:
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap on General.
- Scroll down and select Transfer or Reset iPhone.
- Tap on Reset.
- Select Reset Keyboard Dictionary.
- If necessary, enter your PIN code and confirm the process.
According to the tech portal “MakeUseOf,” this step can improve typing speed and significantly reduce errors.
When Will the Update Follow?
Whether Apple will fix the keyboard issues in one of the upcoming iOS updates remains uncertain. While the autocorrect issue can usually be temporarily resolved with a reset, there is currently no solution for the incorrect character error. Users must therefore hope for a future software update. Whether a third-party keyboard app offers an interim solution remains unclear.
