For those using two iPhones with the same phone number, iOS 27 introduces a new management option. Deutsche Telekom is expanding its MultiSIM offering with the “iPhone Handoff” feature. This allows users to determine which of the two devices is currently active by unlocking it directly on the iPhone. Telekom is offering this feature exclusively in Germany at launch–though it costs extra in many plans.

Device Switching Happens Directly on the iPhone

Previously, users had to use the MeinMagenta app or network commands for certain MultiSIM functions. With iOS 27, control now happens directly on the iPhone. For this, Telekom utilizes the new Apple feature “iPhone Handoff.”

Those using two iPhones with the same phone number will simply unlock the desired device in the future. The feature then recognizes the active iPhone and automatically enables it for calls. The second device remains inactive during this time.

“Behind the simple operation is the close connection between Apple device technology and the Telekom network,” the company says. “Telekom Deutschland servers connect the function on the iPhone with the systems of the Telekom network.”

MultiSIM Remains Unchanged in Its Functions

The new feature does not change the basic capabilities of MultiSIM. Multiple mobile devices can still be used with one contract. The available data volume is shared among all connected devices.

Incoming calls are signaled on the active device. SMS can also be received and sent there. The main novelty is the simplified control directly on the iPhone.

iPhone Handoff Is Part of the MultiSIM Offering

The new feature is part of Deutsche Telekom’s MultiSIM offering. Accordingly, the option can be added to all MagentaMobil plans and costs an additional 6.95 euros per month on top of the main contract. Those who want to use Handoff will have to pay extra.

The MagentaMobil L plan already includes one MultiSIM. The MagentaMobil XL plan includes two MultiSIMs at no additional cost. Users operating multiple iPhones with the same phone number will thus have more direct management of their devices through the operating system in the future.
