The Disney corporation is reportedly working on a comprehensive strategy to more closely integrate its various offerings. A planned “super app” could in the future not only provide streaming content but also enable bookings for theme parks and cruises. Disney aims to unify the user experience–but many questions about implementation remain unanswered.
The Disney+ streaming service and Disneyland theme parks have so far largely operated independently, aside from their shared brand universe. That could change in the future. According to an insider report from the news agency “Bloomberg,” Disney plans to more closely link the two areas.
A Platform for Multiple Offerings
Accordingly, the new company CEO Josh D’Amaro is pursuing the idea of consolidating various company offerings into a single smartphone application. This platform, internally referred to as a “super app,” is intended to bundle several key revenue streams and unify the user experience.
In the future, users could not only stream movies and series on Disney+ through such an app but also plan, book, and manage trips to the company’s theme parks. Additionally, cruises from Disney’s offerings are to be integrated.

Different Worlds Are to Merge
The combination of a streaming service and travel planning seems unusual at first glance. While Disney+ is available worldwide and regularly used by many, Disney operates only six resort locations. These are situated in different regions: three in Asia, two in the U.S., and one in Europe.
Accordingly, the target audiences are also different. The everyday use of a streaming service is hard to compare with the infrequent planning of vacation trips. Overlaps in user behavior have thus far been limited.

Project Still in Early Stages
In the last quarterly report, D’Amaro reportedly emphasized, according to “TechCrunch,” that Disney+ has become the central hub for fans. Building on this, he apparently wants to integrate more of the company’s offerings to create a more comprehensive platform.
Whether this involves concrete planning or is more of a strategic vision is currently unclear. What is certain, however, is that the project is still in an early development stage, according to the report.
