If you’ve been using YouTube Trending to find new videos, you’ll soon need to look elsewhere. The section is going away.
Video formats of all kinds are extremely popular, and nowhere else can you find as many different ones as on YouTube. Whether it’s a lengthy essay or just a short video, there’s content for every conceivable topic and taste. For those who haven’t subscribed to channels and prefer to be inspired, YouTube’s Trending section has been the go-to. This section currently showcases particularly popular videos. However, not for much longer, as the entire YouTube Trending category is set to shut down very soon.
YouTube Trending to Disappear in Coming Weeks
This information comes from a new blog post by the company itself. It states that those responsible for the video platform plan to discontinue the YouTube Trending page and the “Now” list in the “next few weeks.” This means the section will disappear in its current form after ten years.
The reason given is a changing consumption landscape. Currently, the YouTube Trending category is divided into “Now,” “Music,” “Gaming,” and Movies. The company says it used to be much easier to answer the question of which videos were becoming popular. But that’s no longer the case. Instead, trends today consist of numerous videos from various fan groups, and there are more micro-trends than ever before.
At the same time, there are more ways within YouTube to become aware of trends—from recommendations and search suggestions to Shorts, comments, and communities. The use of the YouTube Trending page has steadily declined over the years, especially in the past five years. Therefore, a change is planned.

Greater Focus on YouTube Charts
With the removal of the Trending section and especially the “Now” list, a shift toward more specific charts is planned. Already, you can view trending music videos, the best weekly podcast shows, and the most popular movie trailers. Over time, more new subcategories for the YouTube Charts will be added. The “Gaming Explore” page, however, will remain unchanged.

In addition to the new charts, personalized recommendations will continue to be offered. Together, YouTube aims to showcase a broader range of popular and relevant content. It should also feel natural to encounter these.
But it’s not just fans who will benefit. Content creators will also continue to have the necessary tools to find out which of their content is currently popular. Emerging creators, in turn, will be able to tap into new opportunities to gain more attention, such as the “Hype” feature.
