“Stranger Things” remains Netflix’s flagship show. While the main series is nearing its end, a “Stranger Things” spinoff is set to debut soon.
In recent years, series like “Wednesday,” “Bridgerton,” and “Squid Game” have generated outstanding viewership numbers and plenty of buzz. Nevertheless, “Stranger Things” remains one of Netflix’s most successful and important titles. It was the show that once elevated the streaming service to a new level of success and helped establish the platform in the mainstream. The end of the main series is approaching and will begin in late 2025. But fans need not despair. As it is now being reported, the animated “Stranger Things” spinoff is set to launch in 2026. And more new information has now come to light.
“Stranger Things” Spinoff Has Official Title
Back in 2023, Netflix ordered a first “Stranger Things” spinoff, which will be an animated series—TECHBOOK reported. After that, things went quiet for a while, and the focus was on the grand finale of the original series.
But now, “Collider” and others are reporting numerous new details. A 2026 release is just one of many details. The official title is “Stranger Things: Tales From ’85.”
What “Stranger Things: Tales From ’85” Is About
According to the report, Netflix revealed a brief synopsis at the Annecy Animation Film Festival in France. It remains quite vague for now and reads as follows:
“Welcome back to Hawkins in the harsh winter of 1985, where the original characters in ‘Stranger Things: Tales From ’85,’ an epic new animated series, must battle new monsters and solve a paranormal mystery that terrorizes their town.”
Fans will be pleased to know that beloved characters like Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, Max, and Jim Hopper will return. This has been confirmed by early clips. Additionally, a new character named Nikki Baxter, described as a “tinkerer,” was also seen. Furthermore, the events of the upcoming “Stranger Things” spinoff are set between the second and third seasons of the original.

How many episodes “Stranger Things: Tales From ’85” will include is still unknown. There are also no details yet on whether the events in the spinoff will be part of the canon and thus have any impact on the main series. Netflix has also not yet announced the voice cast.

However, they promise “new mysteries” and “new monsters” that are sure to provide plenty of excitement. Also of interest: The series was originally supposed to look like a “Saturday morning cartoon” on TV. But during development, it became clear that the story would be darker and that perhaps even some characters might die. As a result, the aesthetic was made more realistic.
There is no specific release date yet. It is also unclear whether it will be a one-time project or if more seasons are already planned.
