Disney announced a slew of potential blockbusters at the D23 Convention. The focus is mainly on sequels to popular franchises: “Frozen,” “Star Wars,” “Ice Age,” and “The Simpsons” are all getting new films. Elsa and a new “Star Wars” film starring Ryan Gosling are particularly drawing attention.
Elsa Faces a New Opponent
Disney is bringing “Frozen” back to the big screen. “Frozen 3” is set to premiere on November 24, 2027. Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven return and face a new adversary, who reportedly has powers equal to Elsa’s. New songs are also announced.
Fans will have to wait even longer for “Coco 2.” The sequel to the 2017 Pixar hit is slated for release in November 2029. By then, Miguel will be a teenager. His world is also set to appear in the video game “Kingdom Hearts IV,” which is scheduled for release at the end of 2027.

Ryan Gosling Becomes a Jedi Hero
“Star Wars” fans also received exciting news: Ryan Gosling will take the lead role in “Star Wars: Starfighter.” The film is set to hit theaters in May 2027–just in time for the 50th anniversary of the original “Star Wars” trilogy. Disney is banking on one of Hollywood’s most well-known stars for the next chapter of the space saga.
Marvel is also moving forward. A new “X-Men” film is announced for May 4, 2028. Additionally, Anne Hathaway returns as Mia Thermopolis in “The Princess Diaries 3.” Specific plot details are scarce at this time.
Ice Age, Simpsons, and Pixar Follow Up
Other fan favorites are making a comeback. “Ice Age: Boiling Point” premieres on February 5, 2027. Manny, Sid, Diego, and Scrat embark on an adventure with dinosaurs and lava. The new family member “Jurassic Scrat” is also set to cause chaos.
“The New Simpsons Movie” follows on September 3, 2027–20 years after the first film featuring the yellow family. Pixar also plans “The Incredibles 3” for June 2028, focusing more on the Parr family’s children. Additionally, the animated film “Gatto” about a black cat in Venice and “Ghost Market” are in the works. Disney also announced live-action adaptations of “Tangled,” “Lilo & Stitch 2,” and “Zootopia 3.” However, no release date has been set for “Zootopia 3” yet.
