The cult sitcom “Scrubs” is making a comeback. The U.S. network ABC is bringing the series back as a revival and has already released a full trailer. Many familiar faces are returning. At the same time, a new generation of young doctors is set to bring fresh energy to the hospital routine.
“Scrubs” is an American medical sitcom that aired from 2001 to 2010 and was developed by Bill Lawrence. It combines hospital life with humor, daydreams, and emotional moments. To this day, it is considered one of the most popular hospital comedies of its time. At the center is the fictional Sacred Heart Medical Center, where the characters’ professional and personal stories unfold.
What Is “Scrubs” About?
The main character is Dr. John Dorian, known as J.D., played by Zach Braff. He starts his career as a young intern and experiences quite a bit of emotional turmoil. “Scrubs” is known for its quick fantasy sequences, where the characters’ daydreams are shown as short, often exaggerated scenes. It also features quirky side characters and a constant shift between comedy and serious themes.

These Stars Are in the Reboot
Several actors are returning to their well-known roles for the reboot. They include:
- Zach Braff as Dr. John Dorian, aka J.D.
- Donald Faison as Dr. Christopher Duncan Turk
- Sarah Chalke as Dr. Elliot Reid
- John C. McGinley as Dr. Cox
- Judy Reyes as Carla Espinosa
- Robert Maschio as The Todd
- Phill Lewis as Hooch
The storyline remains at the Sacred Heart Medical Center. The familiar characters have now gained significantly more professional experience. Instead of being uncertain interns themselves, they now take on mentor and role model roles.
At the same time, the revival introduces new young doctors who are at the beginning of their medical careers. This brings back the classic “Scrubs” principle. The hospital routine is told from the perspective of young medical professionals who must deal with stress, hierarchies, difficult patients, and their personal lives.
