Since 2005, the doctors at the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital (later Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital) have been working tirelessly to save lives while also navigating their own relationships. “Grey’s Anatomy” has become a true TV and streaming staple over the years, and there’s no end in sight.
ABC Renews “Grey’s Anatomy” for Season 23
As reported by the U.S. industry magazine “Variety,” the network ABC (owned by Disney) has renewed “Grey’s Anatomy” for a 23rd season. And why wouldn’t they? The ratings and streaming numbers remain phenomenal even after more than two decades.
“Grey’s Anatomy” is the longest-running primetime medical drama on U.S. television. Despite the annual debut of numerous new series, some of which become very successful, it was the most-streamed series on Disney+ and Hulu in 2025.
According to the report, “Grey’s Anatomy” was also the second most-streamed series in the U.S. across all platforms–surpassing most Netflix hits or in-house competition from the Marvel or Star Wars universe.
What Stays, What Changes
There are no official plot details for the 23rd season yet. However, fans can likely look forward to the familiar hospital dramas. Behind the scenes, Ellen Pompeo remains with the series as an executive producer, narrator, and occasional guest star. Pompeo played the lead role of Meredith Grey for 19 seasons before stepping back.
