“I’ll be back,” said Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1984 in James Cameron’s sci-fi milestone “Terminator.” In 1991, he really did return to the big screen as a robot from the future–and how. “Terminator 2” is nothing less than one of the most groundbreaking and best action films of all time and is soon returning to theaters.
“Terminator 2” Returns Just in Time for “Judgment Day”
This is now evident from a press release by StudioCanal. According to it, “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” will once again shake cinema screens, including in Germany. The occasion is the 35th anniversary of the four-time Oscar-winning masterpiece. The distributor has also created a new trailer specifically for this:
In line with this, “Terminator 2” will be back in theaters here on August 27, 2026–just in time for this year’s “Judgment Day,” which, as is well known, is supposed to take place in the classic on August 29, 1997, when the super AI Skynet wipes out billions of people.

And for those who still don’t know what it’s about after all this time: 10 years after the dramatic events, Sarah Connor is once again confronted by her past. A highly advanced Terminator travels from the future to eliminate young John Connor, who is destined to become the machines’ most important adversary. Sarah does everything she can to save her son. She is supported by a reprogrammed Terminator of an older model, tasked with protecting John at all costs.
The First “Terminator” Also Returns
Update: While the sequel celebrates its milestone anniversary, the groundbreaking first part is also making a guest appearance on the big screen. As part of the “Best of Cinema” series, fans can once again marvel at Arnie’s big breakthrough in theaters on August 4. However, as an event screening, it will likely only be for that one day, so good planning is essential.
