Some films seem to come out of nowhere and not only become commercial successes–they turn into modern legends and staples of pop culture. Examples include “Star Wars,” “The Godfather,” and certainly the first “Rocky” installment. It launched one of the most famous sports film series of all time. Now, the classic is returning to theaters.
“Rocky” in Theaters Thanks to “Best of Cinema”
This is now evident from a press release. According to it, the first “Rocky” film from 1976 will grace the big screen in Germany again starting November 3, 2026. This is made possible by the “Best of Cinema” film series, initiated by Kabel Eins and currently supported by “Filmstarts.” As part of this, selected cinematic milestones are returning to theaters, such as “Pan’s Labyrinth” or the first “Fast & Furious” installment.
There’s even a new trailer specifically for the “Rocky” re-release:
If you haven’t seen the film yet or want to experience it on the big screen again, you should check out the “Best of Cinema” website. It lists all participating theaters and their showtimes. From there, you can also directly book tickets for the respective screening.
Restored in 4K
There’s really no need to say more about “Rocky.” The film launched Sylvester Stallone’s star career, as he wrote the screenplay and played the lead role. It won three Oscars in the categories of Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Editing. Stallone himself was nominated for Best Original Screenplay and Best Actor. For the re-release, “Rocky” will shine in polished 4K resolution, 50 years after its world premiere.
Here’s the story: In Philadelphia, Rocky Balboa leads a modest life, struggling to earn enough money for his daily needs. His fate changes dramatically when world champion Apollo Creed selects him as an opponent for a high-profile boxing match. Although Rocky is considered a clear underdog, he sees it as an opportunity to finally prove what he’s capable of. He prepares for the duel with great perseverance and pursues his personal goal with determination.
