ING is preparing a major change for its retail banking business. In the future, four different account models will replace the current system. The new plans are called ING Go, ING More, ING Extra, and ING Max. In addition to classic payment transaction functions, the bank plans to offer additional services that go beyond a regular checking account.
With this, ING is following a trend where banks are increasingly building their offerings as comprehensive packages. The new models are designed to accompany customers in their daily lives and bundle various additional services. These include, among other things, insurance, discounts, or digital benefits.
Banks Increasingly Focus on Additional Services
More and more financial institutions are expanding their accounts into more comprehensive packages. They combine traditional financial products with additional offerings. As a result, a regular checking account gradually evolves into a subscription-like model. Customers receive not only banking functions but also additional services for various areas of life.
ING is also realigning its retail banking business worldwide. The bank plans a new structure with several account tiers tailored to different needs. Depending on the plan, different services are emphasized.

Four Account Tiers with Different Focuses
At the center of the transition are the four new models ING Go, ING More, ING Extra, and ING Max. The offerings range from simple basic functions to extensive premium services.
The new ING subscription models were initially introduced in the Netherlands and shortly thereafter in Belgium, Poland, and Romania, but are expected to be expanded to other European countries, including Germany. There is no confirmed pricing structure in Germany yet, but conclusions can be drawn from the Dutch prices. There, the monthly prices are as follows:
- ING Go: 4 euros (basic account with checking account and debit card)
- ING More: 7 euros (additionally, among other things, credit card, second account holder, and protection against cyber fraud)
- ING Extra: 15.99 euros (additionally higher savings interest, premium credit card without foreign currency surcharge, and Amazon Prime)
- ING Max: 44.99 euros (additionally travel insurance, airport lounge access, even higher savings interest, and Disney+)
ING Go serves as an entry-level solution for everyday banking transactions. It includes basic functions related to card and account. With ING More, the bank expands the offering with additional services and more flexible usage options.

The two higher plans, ING Extra and ING Max, are aimed at people with greater demands on their accounts. These packages include, among other things, insurance services, travel benefits, cashback models, and partner offers. Depending on the market, according to the Dutch ING, streaming subscriptions or mobility benefits are also included.
ING Max bundles the most services and forms the most comprehensive package within the new structure. However, the exact functions included and the cost of each model vary from country to country. The bank adjusts its plans locally.
New Models Already Available in Several Countries
The transition is already underway in several markets. According to the bank, the change affects around 41 million customers in nine countries.
Several million people are already using the new plans. This is also happening through the gradual migration of existing accounts into the new system. However, when ING will introduce the new models in Germany is not yet known. There are also no details yet on the future prices and specific services for German customers. However, the bank has confirmed that the four models Go, More, Extra, and Max will also be introduced here in the future.
As of now, it is not known that the previous free ING checking account will completely disappear. On the contrary, several reports suggest that there will continue to be an affordable or free entry-level model in the future.
