In recent days, ING has rolled out some minor updates for its banking app. They improve the account balance display and introduce a temporary card lock via the app for added security.
Account Balance Now Includes Pending Transactions
One of the updates applies to both the mobile app and online banking of ING. All pending transactions are now directly included in the displayed account balance. These include card payments and direct debits. This brings the displayed amount closer to the actual account balance and helps users keep better track of their finances. Previously, frequent card payments could lead to a discrepancy between available and actual funds, a problem the bank has now resolved.
The change was not enabled by a single update but complements existing features that have been available since the end of November. The current update to version 8.47.3 is available for free download in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

ING Introduces Temporary Card Lock
Another feature of the update is entirely new. It involves the ability to lock bank cards for a certain period. The temporary card lock at ING is useful if a card is temporarily misplaced. Instead of permanently deactivating it, a temporary lock can be activated directly in the app. If the card is found, the lock can be easily lifted.
Additionally, the update brings several other features: The use of the European PayPal alternative Wero is now also possible for joint accounts. For the coming year, the bank also plans to allow registration with Wero not only via phone number but also via email.
Push Notifications for Investors
A new alert function for securities allows users to receive push notifications when a certain price is reached. Additionally, new issues (placement of new securities on the capital market) can be subscribed to directly via the securities search in the app.
Besides these innovations, the changelog also mentions general stability improvements and minor bug fixes.
