In 2021, the platform Ebay Kleinanzeigen was sold to Adevinta. It no longer belongs to Ebay, although it still carries the name. However, that is about to change.
According to Statista, Ebay Kleinanzeigen has about 40 million visitors per month, making it one of the most-used websites in Germany. Ebay founded the platform for local buying and selling in 2009. It emerged from the former offering Kijiji. Twelve years later, it was sold for $9.2 billion to the Norwegian company Adevinta, the largest operator of online classifieds portals in Europe and worldwide. The deal brought Ebay a total of $2.5 billion in cash, as well as 44 percent of the shares and 33 percent of the voting rights in Adevinta, which also included the portal Mobile.de. So, Ebay Kleinanzeigen has not been part of Ebay for a while, and this will soon be reflected in its name.

Ebay Kleinanzeigen Gets a New Name
After the sale, Paul Heimann, CEO of Kleinanzeigen, told dpa: “For a period of three years, we can use the brand name Ebay Kleinanzeigen as it is–with the logo and everything that goes with it.” The deadline expires in 2024, but the major change in brand appearance is already on the horizon. This will soon come with not only a new name but also a new logo and design, according to the portal in a recent announcement.
The transition was already announced in July 2022. At that time, there were hints online suggesting the change. For example, the website kleinanzeigen.de had a new owner. Although entering the address in a browser showed no content, the icon in the tab, known as the favicon, already bore the design we knew from Ebay Kleinanzeigen.
Shortly thereafter, there was even an official confirmation that Ebay Kleinanzeigen had secured the new domain. “We asked ourselves what Ebay Kleinanzeigen is without Ebay,” Heimann said in a statement at the time. “The answer is simple: Kleinanzeigen. The new, old name is also a promise to our users: We remain what we stand for today. After all, Ebay Kleinanzeigen is one of the best-known and most popular brands in this country.”
Now the time has come: From May 16, Ebay Kleinanzeigen will simply be Kleinanzeigen. The Ebay in the name and logo will be removed, and the circled word Kleinanzeigen will no longer appear in the logo. Instead, users will see a K as the logo under the new link kleinanzeigen.de, which the portal says symbolizes sustainability and the circular economy.

For Users, Much Remains the Same
Apart from the new name, not much will change at (Ebay) Kleinanzeigen. User accounts, chat histories, ratings, and ads will remain. Already introduced options such as “Buy Direct” and “Pay Securely” will also continue to be available.
“We are an online classifieds market for everyone, promoting the joy of sustainable actions. We want to remain that way. In recent weeks, we have made some visual changes, but we continue to hold on to what our users appreciate about us,” said Paul Heimann.
However, there are also changes, mainly affecting the design of the new website. Kleinanzeigen has announced plans to introduce a Dark Mode. This will be available with the next version of its apps from the end of May.
