Amazon is increasingly focusing on sustainability and introducing a new shopping event centered on secondhand items. From September 3 to 9, 2025, customers will have the opportunity to purchase refurbished products at reduced prices. The online giant promises discounts of up to 50 percent on a variety of items from electronics, household goods, and more.
Returned and Refurbished Goods at Affordable Prices
With the new event, titled Second Chance Deal Days, Amazon aims to promote conscious consumption. Each product is carefully inspected, cleaned, and repaired if necessary before resale. This is intended to help extend the products’ lifespan. For customers, it’s an opportunity to shop affordably and sustainably. Amazon assures in a press release that every item sold “meets Amazon’s usual quality standards and is offered with the usual customer service and return policy.”
During the Second Chance Deal Days, there are offers from two different categories on Amazon:
- Amazon Return Purchase: Used and opened products that are inspected and provided with a condition description.
- Amazon Renewed: Like-new products that are refurbished.
Technological Support for Purchase Decisions
Amazon makes it easier for customers to make purchasing decisions by providing comprehensive information. Detailed descriptions, photos, videos, and customer reviews are available. Additionally, the company offers AI-powered size recommendations and augmented reality views for certain categories to minimize incorrect purchases and returns.

Growing Demand for Secondhand Items
A representative survey by the market research institute CEBR shows, according to Amazon, that the demand for secondhand items is growing in Europe. More than two-thirds of respondents from Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom regularly purchase used goods. The reasons for this are varied: rising living costs, environmental awareness, and the desire for hassle-free shopping options.
Financial Benefits for Customers
The reuse of products also has financial benefits. In Germany alone, over 20 million returned or refurbished products found new owners in 2024. According to Amazon, this saved customers over 160 million euros. Rocco Bräuniger, Country Manager of Amazon Germany, emphasizes that positive experiences with price-performance ratio and quality encourage customers to buy secondhand products again, thus contributing to the extension of product lifespan.
