Microsoft has been working for some time to bring Windows 11 and Android closer together. Many users have an Android smartphone alongside their computer. This is where the company is focusing its efforts, aiming to enhance the connection. The Smartphone Link app already allows for reliable interaction. However, more features are expected to be available directly on the PC in the future.
More Control Directly in the Start Menu
According to the online magazine “WindowsCentral,” the focus of further development is primarily on the interface. Smartphone Link is to be much more integrated into the system. Users will no longer need to open the app separately. Instead, important information will appear directly in the Start Menu. There, users can view current smartphone activities. If desired, they can open messages or images from apps with a click. This saves time and makes operation noticeably more comfortable.
The taskbar will also play a larger role in the future. Microsoft apparently plans a dedicated icon to indicate an active connection. Clicking on it opens a compact overview with important functions. These include the “Do Not Disturb” mode, vibration settings, or the ability to make the Android smartphone ring. This way, the device remains easy to find even if it’s lying around the house.

Transfer Files Easily via Drag and Drop
Another focus is on data exchange. Microsoft wants to significantly simplify the transfer between PC and smartphone. Files should be easily transferable via drag and drop in the future. Users drag them to the appropriate icon, and the transfer starts automatically. This is intuitive and saves detours.
There are also improvements to the clipboard. Currently, only a single copied item can be synchronized. In the future, the entire history between both devices will be synchronized. This offers advantages in everyday life, such as quickly switching between texts, links, or images.

Own Messaging App in Planning
Additionally, Microsoft is apparently working on a standalone messaging app for Windows 11. This would allow SMS conversations directly on the PC. An active connection to the smartphone would no longer be necessary. This would be a big step toward more independence from the mobile device.
Many of the new features are still in an early development phase. Therefore, an exact release date is not yet set. A major update in fall 2026 is possible when Microsoft rolls out the next significant system changes. Until then, much is likely to happen.
