With Windows 11, Microsoft has changed the design and behavior of many features—including moving the Start menu to the center of the taskbar. However, users can reverse these changes and disable other annoying elements.

Restore the Classic Start Menu in Windows 11

Those switching from Windows 10 will quickly notice: The Start menu is now centered in the taskbar instead of being on the far left as before. This central alignment causes irritation for many users—but it can be easily reversed.

To do this, press the “Windows+I” key combination to open Settings, type “taskbar” in the search field, and select “Taskbar settings.” Click on “Taskbar behaviors” and set the “Taskbar alignment” option to “left.” This will return the Start menu to its usual place.

Hide Annoying Search Trends and News

In addition to the position of the Start menu, Windows 11 includes other elements that not everyone wants to see—such as search trends and news previews directly in the menu.

These can be turned off under “Privacy & security/Search permissions/More settings.” Simply deactivate the “Show search highlights” option there.

Customize Privacy Settings in Windows 11

If you completed the installation of Windows 11 quickly, you should now take a look at the privacy options. Under “Privacy & security,” there are numerous settings that can be individually adjusted—from general security features to Windows permissions and app access rights.

Change the Default Browser and Replace Edge

Another point many users want to adjust after installation is the default browser. Microsoft automatically sets Edge as the default.

Once an alternative browser is installed, this can be changed under “Apps/Default apps.” There, a different browser can be set as the default for each file type category.
