WhatsApp has announced a new feature. For a long time, the messenger stuck to the “one number, one smartphone” solution. However, this is now outdated, as users have become much more flexible and often have multiple devices and numbers. From now on, it will be possible to use WhatsApp with two accounts or numbers.
Many users have likely been waiting for this innovation: two WhatsApp accounts on one smartphone. The popular messenger has confirmed the new feature, which had already been tested for several months in the beta phase. TECHBOOK explains how you can use WhatsApp with multiple accounts or numbers in the future.
How to Use WhatsApp with Multiple Accounts
After a long wait, there is now official confirmation that the innovation will be available in the “normal” WhatsApp application. This was confirmed in the official WhatsApp blog. To set up a second account within the existing account, you need a second phone number and a SIM card. Alternatively, a smartphone that supports multi-SIM or eSIM would suffice.
Once that’s ensured, you can get started. First, you need to open WhatsApp. Then go to settings. A small arrow should appear next to your name. If so, tap “Add Account.” In the final step, simply follow the instructions to set up a second WhatsApp account.
The new feature was tested and teased some time ago. Insider WABetainfo previously reported that WhatsApp was working on a new feature to enable the use of multiple accounts within one app. The test was only possible with the beta version of WhatsApp Business for Android (Update 2.23.13.5).

If the Update Isn’t Available Yet
It’s still unclear when exactly the update will arrive on all devices. TECHBOOK checked both an Android and an iOS smartphone and found that the innovation was not yet available on either. If that’s also the case for you and you still want to use two WhatsApp accounts, it’s still possible–though a bit more cumbersome.

There are two ways to use multiple WhatsApp accounts on one device. One is to install both WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business and use the apps independently with two different numbers. The other is “app cloning”–a feature available only on Android smartphones. This allows you to install two instances of an app on one smartphone. Some manufacturers offer it out of the box, while others require a workaround.
