However, an unusual situation has arisen with several Samsung smartphones. In the Samsung online store, various refurbished models of the Galaxy S26 series cost more than the new versions with the same storage capacity.
The devices affected are from the “Certified Re-Newed” program. These are smartphones that were previously returned or traded in. Samsung then refurbishes the devices for resale. According to the manufacturer, they are in like-new condition, although minor signs of use may be present.
Refurbished Devices Up to 160 Euros More Expensive
According to Samsung, certified technicians thoroughly inspect the smartphones before resale. The devices are cleaned and, if necessary, repaired with original parts. Buyers also receive a certified original battery and the latest available software version. There is no difference in warranty compared to a new device. Samsung also offers a two-year warranty on the refurbished smartphones.
The difference is particularly large with the Galaxy S26 Ultra with 256 gigabytes of storage. Samsung currently charges 1,229 euros for the refurbished version. The brand-new model initially costs 1,449 euros in the shop. However, a promotional code advertised directly on the product page reduces the price to 1,049 euros.
This creates a difference of 180 euros in favor of the new device. Buyers pay significantly more for the refurbished version, even though it was originally intended as a cheaper alternative.
Price Comparison Before Purchase Is Worthwhile
The situation is similar with the Galaxy S26+ with 512 gigabytes of storage. The refurbished version costs 1,229 euros. With the promotional code, the price of the new device drops to 1,049 euros. Here, too, the difference is 180 euros. For the Galaxy S26 with 512 gigabytes of storage, the gap is slightly smaller. Samsung charges 1,019 euros for the refurbished model. The new product costs 899 euros after the discount. This results in a savings of 120 euros.

The current price differences show that a careful comparison before purchase is worthwhile. Those interested in one of the mentioned Galaxy models should not automatically assume that the refurbished version is cheaper.
The reason for the current situation is the discount codes offered by Samsung. As long as the promotion is running, new devices can be cheaper than comparable refurbished models despite higher regular prices. Therefore, it is advisable to check the actual final prices for the same storage size before purchasing.
