At the beginning of the year, manufacturers warned that prices for new smartphones would rise in 2026. Supply chain issues and increased costs for essential memory chips are affecting the entire industry. As a result, Samsung is even adjusting prices for smartphones and tablets that have been on the market for some time.

Increase of up to 35 Percent

As reported by “9To5Mac,” prices for several smartphones and tablets in Samsung’s online store have significantly increased in the U.S. The Galaxy S25 Edge, Z Fold7, and Z Flip7 are now up to $80 more expensive. The flagship tablet Tab S11 Ultra with one terabyte of storage has even increased by a full $280.

In Germany, Samsung is also passing on the higher costs for memory chips, which the entire industry is suffering from, to consumers. Here, the current foldable smartphones Z Fold7 and Z Flip7, as well as the Galaxy S25 Edge, are affected. While most versions are currently between 70 and 80 euros more expensive than in March, the 512-GB variant of the Z Flip7 stands out, costing a full 200 euros more.

The price increase is even more dramatic for the older models Galaxy S25 and S25 FE. Samsung had recently reduced the prices of these two models, making the new prices particularly noticeable. In January 2026, Samsung offered the S25 for 599 euros. Currently, the smartphone is priced at 809 euros, a full 35 percent increase–and almost as much as it cost at launch in February 2025.

Reasons for Rising Prices

Although Samsung does not comment on the price adjustments, the reason is well known. Since the end of 2026, costs for manufacturers in the electronics industry have been steadily increasing.

Production bottlenecks are causing memory chip manufacturers to constantly adjust prices upward. The increasing demand for chips is primarily due to the expansion of server infrastructure for AI applications.

Higher Costs, Less Demand

Some current flagship models like the Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26 Ultra have not yet been affected by price increases. However, if memory prices do not recover, an adjustment here is not unlikely. Additionally, future models like the Z Flip8 and Z Fold8 are expected to follow the industry trend and launch with higher prices than their predecessors.

Market researchers at the International Data Corporation (IDC) believe that rising prices could also affect demand. If customers stop buying due to overly expensive smartphones, it could lead to a market-wide sales decline of more than five percent this year.
