At its iPhone event in Cupertino, Apple unveiled four new models–one of them completely new. Additionally, there are new Apple Watches and the third generation of AirPods Pro. TECHBOOK summarizes the highlights.

iPhone Air: Ultra-thin, powerful, and with pro features

The new iPhone Air is the clear highlight of the presentation. It replaces the previous Plus model and brings features that were previously reserved for the Pro series. With a thickness of just 5.6 millimeters, it even undercuts the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, making it the slimmest iPhone yet.

This is made possible by a new “High Density” battery, which Apple claims is sufficient for a full day of use. The titanium frame and Ceramic Shield on the front and back ensure everyday robustness. Notable is the so-called “plateau” on the back–here, Apple installs not only the camera but also central chips and components to make room for the large battery inside.

The camera uses a single 48-megapixel sensor that allows for wide-angle shots and two-times zoom. The iPhone Air is powered by the new A19 Pro–according to Apple, the fastest smartphone chip in the world with performance on par with a MacBook.

Another technical leap: The iPhone Air exclusively uses Apple’s new N1 chip for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. The setup is complemented by the particularly energy-efficient C1X modem–ideal for a device with such a compact format.

As an accessory, Apple introduces a new MagSafe battery that magnetically attaches to the back and, according to the manufacturer, enables up to 40 hours of video playback.

iPhone 17 Pro: More power through new cooling system

As already speculated, Apple is moving away from titanium in the Pro models and returning to aluminum for the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max–and for good reason. The back is now made from a single piece, allowing for a new cooling system. The so-called “Vapor Chamber” is designed to efficiently dissipate the heat of the powerful A19 Pro through the casing.

The result: according to Apple, up to 40 percent more sustained performance–particularly interesting for mobile gamers. Inside, the Pro also benefits from the new arrangement of components under the camera island, creating space for a larger battery. The promised runtime is up to 39 hours.

In terms of camera technology, the last lens on the back now also gets a 48-megapixel sensor. Additionally, Apple extends the optical zoom to four- and eight-times magnification–previously, it was limited to five-times.

iPhone 17: More display, new camera, finally ProMotion

Externally, the iPhone 17 looks familiar–but a lot has changed beneath the surface. For the first time, ProMotion and Always-On Display are features in a standard iPhone, previously reserved for the Pro models. The display itself has slightly grown, and the bezels have become narrower.

With up to 3,000 nits, it also reaches a new peak brightness for iPhones. The further developed Ceramic Shield on the front is not only more robust but also less reflective thanks to a new coating.

Inside, the new A19 chip works, offering both higher performance and improved graphics performance for games. Additionally, there are eight more hours of battery life compared to the iPhone 16 and faster charging times.

The front camera has also been revamped: It now offers 18-megapixel resolution and a wider field of view. Thanks to a square sensor, shots are easily possible in both portrait and landscape formats.

AirPods Pro 3: In-ears with pulse measurement and stronger sound

As expected, Apple also introduced a new generation of AirPods Pro. The AirPods Pro 3 come with an integrated pulse sensor–making an Apple Watch unnecessary for many workouts. Users can track up to 50 types of workouts directly with the headphones.

Apple promises twice as strong noise-canceling as the predecessors and significantly improved battery life. The new in-ears are more compact and come with five different-sized tips for a better fit. They will be released on September 19 at a price of 249 euros.

Apple Watch: Series 11 and Ultra 3 with 5G and new health features

The Apple Watch also receives a comprehensive upgrade. The Series 11 now supports 5G, is flatter, more robust, and faster than before. New health features such as high blood pressure detection and a sleep score complement the offering. The battery life is now 24 hours–six more than the Series 10.

For the first time, the more affordable Watch SE in its third generation gets an Always-On Display and fast charging. 5G is also included here.

For outdoor enthusiasts, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 was introduced. The new model offers a larger, brighter display and, for the first time, satellite connectivity for emergency situations. With up to 42 hours of runtime, the watch lasts around two days.
