It’s official: On Tuesday, September 9, Apple will open its most important event of the year at 7 p.m. at Apple Park in Cupertino. Traditionally, the company unveils new iPhone models at the event—but other devices could also make an appearance.
What Will Apple Present at the September Event?
Apple is expected to showcase the iPhone 17 generation with a new design at its September event. The iPhone 17 Air is a completely new model ready to launch. Additionally, a slimmer Apple Watch 11 with new health sensors is anticipated. Rumors suggest the AirPods Pro 3 might be equipped with heart rate and temperature sensors. Our colleagues from COMPUTER BILD will be there live to report!
If the predictions hold true, the iPhone 17 will again come in four different models—but they will differ significantly from the previous generation.
- iPhone 17: Increases from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches compared to the iPhone 16
- iPhone 17 Air: Replaces the iPhone 16 Plus
- iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max: Fresh housing design with new materials and a distinctive camera strip on the back
iPhone 17 Air Replaces Plus Model
Much points to Apple discontinuing the Plus series and instead introducing the slimmest iPhone model yet, the iPhone 17 Air. If the rumors about the housing thickness of supposedly 5.5 millimeters are confirmed, the U.S. company would undercut the extremely thin Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge (5.8 mm). However, the Galaxy model has two camera lenses that protrude significantly from the housing. The iPhone 17 Air’s camera block might be less dramatic because it reportedly only has one camera lens. The 17 Air is expected to have a comparatively small battery, which could lead to reduced runtime. Apple might therefore rely on software optimizations like the new power mode “Adaptive Performance” in iOS 26.
iPhone 17 Pro (Max) with Aluminum Housing
If a strong battery is particularly important to you, you might want to start saving for the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which is rumored to make a significant leap in energy capacity and might even become slightly thicker. Additionally, the Pro models are expected to feature a new unibody aluminum housing—similar to the iPhone SE (2022). This includes the entire back and camera strip. Meaning: no more pure glass back. Only below the camera strip will a thin glass plate be placed over the charging coil and magnets that enable MagSafe. Images of corresponding components made from milled aluminum have already surfaced multiple times, showing both the camera strip and the cutout for the MagSafe technology.
iPhone Air, Watch Ultra 3, AirPods Pro 3 – Highlights of the Apple Event
Release Date for iPhone 17 Likely Set
Apple Watch 11 and Ultra 3
There is likely to be significant development in smartwatches as well. The Apple Watch Series 11 could receive 5G connectivity in the cellular model for the first time. Additionally, the new “Sleep Score” offers an extra health metric and potentially enhanced sensors for detecting arterial hypertension.
The Ultra 3, on the other hand, is expected to feature satellite connectivity for Emergency SOS beyond these features. There might also be a larger OLED display with a higher refresh rate.
Apple AirPods Pro 3 with Heart Rate Monitor
The AirPods Pro 2 have been on the market since 2022, and now the next generation might finally appear. In addition to better sound and active noise-canceling, the earbuds are expected to feature a completely new capability: sensors for heart rate measurement.
The Powerbeats Pro 2 from Apple’s subsidiary Beats also have integrated infrared sensors that measure heart rate directly in the ear. The AirPods Pro 3 could go a step further and include temperature sensors that can detect fever.
