Google not only released Android 16 overnight from June 10 to 11, but also rolled out the June Pixel Drop at the same time. This exclusive update is released quarterly and expands the functionality of Google smartphones.
VIP Contacts
Among the new features is the Pixel VIP feature, available for all current models starting with the Pixel 6. Users can define a group of particularly important contacts that appear as quick access on the home screen via the VIP widget. These profiles can be supplemented with information such as addresses, personal notes, and other data.
A contact overview lists recent calls, messages, and received images. These VIP contacts have a special status on the device: VIP calls ring even in “Do Not Disturb” mode, and users can even view the location history of these contacts if it is shared. Google assures that the collected data is secure, as processing occurs locally (on the device).

Smart Magnifier and Clear Recordings
Another improvement concerns the magnifier app. It can now not only enlarge small objects but also specifically search for them. Users simply need to enter text to indicate what the app should look for. The live search is powered by Google AI.
Two new features are also on the agenda for the recorder app. First, Google is adding language packages for German and French to the AI summary of recordings. Second, the Pixel 8 family receives Clear Voice, which suppresses background noise that might interfere with recordings.

AI Stickers for Pixel Chat
Exclusively for the Pixel 9 family, an entertaining AI feature is available via Pixel Studio and the Gboard app. It allows users to customize stickers using AI. Users need to enter prompts, which the generative AI then turns into individual stickers. These stickers can be sent directly and saved for future use.
Help for Hobby Photographers
Another previously announced feature concerns the Pixel camera app. Google provides hobby photographers with useful tips on possible photo compositions and subjects. The update is available for all currently supported models starting with the Pixel 6.
