Samsung’s new foldable smartphone is apparently becoming a surprise hit. Demand for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is so high that the manufacturer has to significantly ramp up production.
Samsung is responding to much higher demand than expected. According to the Korean portal “ETNews,” the company has increased production of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 by an additional one million units. Samsung aims to address the strong number of preorders, which apparently far exceed the company’s forecasts.
According to information from “SamMobile,” global preorders for the current Galaxy Z series could reach around five million units. Particularly noteworthy is the high price of the models: The Galaxy Z Fold 8 starts at around 2,000 euros, making it one of the most expensive smartphones on the market.

New Display Design Is the Success Factor
The redesigned display of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is considered a key selling point. Samsung has made the foldable smartphone wider and adjusted the display’s aspect ratio. This is intended to make the device better suited for vertical content like social media videos when closed. When opened, users have more space for movies, websites, or productive multitasking.
The changes are apparently well-received. According to available figures, about 59 percent of all preorders for the new Galaxy Z series are for the Fold model. Compared to its predecessor, this represents an increase of about 30 percent. Thus, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is becoming the main driver within Samsung’s foldable smartphone segment.
Record Demand Pushes Logistics to Its Limits
The success also has unpleasant consequences for Samsung. In South Korea, the company has already had to postpone initial deliveries. Instead of the originally planned early August, some devices will now arrive at customers’ doors at the end of August. Affected are not only the Galaxy Z Fold 8 but also certain variants of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.
With increased production, Samsung is now trying to quickly resolve the resulting bottlenecks. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 features a 5.5-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch main screen in a 4:3 format. The combination of larger usable space and a more practical design seems to hit the mark for many buyers and could explain why Samsung is currently struggling to keep up with production.
