While many Galaxy users are still waiting for the One UI 8.5 update, Samsung seems to be internally moving to the next step. The upcoming One UI 9 system, based on Android 17, is reportedly already in an early testing phase according to a well-known insider. An initial beta version has been discovered on the manufacturer’s test servers.
The information comes from X user Tarun Vats, who regularly reports on Samsung news. According to him, the current test version is labeled S948BXXU2ZZE7. It is based on Android 17, which has not yet been officially released. He states that development is progressing rapidly.
Samsung appears to be advancing development
That Samsung is starting its own adjustments before the official launch of Android 17 is a clear signal. The manufacturer seems to aim once again to quickly equip its devices with new software. Although a public beta version is not yet available, it could be released in May 2026.
A look at last year shows a similar pattern. In 2025, early indications of a new version appeared in early May. Shortly thereafter, Samsung released the first beta in the same month. This was based on Android 16.
Launch of Android 17 appears imminent
Android 17 itself reached its fourth beta in mid-April 2026. This is likely the last test version before the final release. Industry observers expect that Google will unveil the finished version at the Google I/O developer conference on May 19, 2026.

After the official presentation, Samsung could quickly follow suit. Initially, however, only the latest models are expected to benefit. It is anticipated that devices in the Galaxy S26 series will be the first to receive the update. Subsequently, new foldables, expected to be released in July, could follow. However, an official confirmation from Samsung is still pending.
