Apple has released another update for its mobile operating systems. Since September 8, users can download iOS 26.6.2 and iPadOS 26.6.2. The release comes just over three weeks after iOS 26.6.1. The manufacturer does not mention any major innovations. Nevertheless, the update could be relevant for many users.
According to Apple, iOS 26.6.2 fixes a bug that could prevent downloading further updates over a cellular connection. The company does not list new features or other visible changes. Apple also does not mention any security vulnerabilities addressed in the new version on its English-language security page.
How to Install iOS 26.6.2
To install, users open “Settings” on the iPhone or iPad. Then, go to “General” and select “Software Update.”

Before starting, Apple recommends backing up to iCloud or a computer. This allows personal data to be restored if problems occur during the process. During the download and installation, the device should also be connected to the internet and a power source.
Apple is Already Testing iOS 27
Apple is already working on the next operating system version while the current update is still being distributed. The company released the eighth test version of iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 on August 31. They are currently available only to developers and test program participants.
The release of iOS 26.6.2 and iPadOS 26.6.2 could be related to the upcoming operating systems. It is conceivable that Apple wants to ensure that downloading iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 also works over cellular connections by fixing the bug.
Apple may have discovered the issue during the development of the new versions. However, whether this is actually the case remains unclear. Apple itself does not establish a connection between the update and the upcoming operating systems.
