Under the name WhatsApp Plus, a potential subscription model for the WhatsApp messenger is currently being tested. Initial indications suggest that the Meta-owned service could introduce additional features without restricting free usage. The development is still in its early stages but is already being tested in small user groups.
According to information from the well-informed website “WABetaInfo,” WhatsApp Plus currently appears only for selected users in the app settings. A possible price is also visible there for the first time. In Europe, this is currently around 2.49 euros per month. The amount may change before the official launch. Reports from other regions suggest that WhatsApp is generally aiming for a low price for the offering.
There seems to be no consensus on the name of the subscription either. Previously, it was circulated online as WhatsApp Premium.
More Customization Options for the Interface
The planned features suggest a stronger individualization of the app. Users will be able to choose from about 18 color tones, ranging from bold to subtle variants. If a color other than the familiar WhatsApp green is selected, the existing design elements automatically adjust to the new accent color.
The app icon is also expected to be customizable. About 14 variants are planned, ranging from classic to striking designs. These include icons with glitter effects and versions with bright colors. Additionally, simpler versions with pastel colors or clear contrasts are available to personalize the home screen.

Changes are also being tested in the usage area. In the future, up to 20 chats could be permanently pinned at the top, making it easier to manage many conversations. Additionally, new stickers and expanded reactions are planned. Certain premium stickers will have an additional effect that triggers an animated layer in the chat, visible to others even without their own subscription.

Continued Free Usage Possible
The basic principle of WhatsApp remains unchanged by the potential subscription. The messenger continues to be free to use and offers all known features for messages, calls, and groups. The planned premium offering is merely an optional extension for additional customization and comfort features. An official launch date is not yet known, and individual details may still change.
