Trüberbrook

A sci-fi adventure game from Germany set in a parallel universe in the 1960s. Players take on the role of American scientist Hans Tannhauser, who travels to the remote village of Trüberbrook. Instead of enjoying the peace, players must solve puzzles and save the world.

According to Metacritic, the game has received mostly positive reviews, scoring a solid 76 points for the Xbox version. The meticulously designed graphics, described as a “work of art,” receive much praise. The point-and-click mechanics evoke a retro feel, even if the puzzles aren’t too complex. Some criticism is directed at the incoherent story, which also has a rather abrupt ending.

Sudden Strike 4 – Complete Collection

“Sudden Strike 4” is a real-time strategy game (RTS) set during World War II. Players command the armies of the Allies, Soviets, or Germans in eleven campaigns, reenacting historical battles such as Operation Barbarossa, the Battle of the Bulge, the Battles of Dunkirk and Stalingrad, and the Pacific War. Both in single-player and multiplayer, more than one hundred units can be commanded. The Complete Collection includes the base game and all five previously released DLCs.

Since the Complete Edition of “Sudden Strike 4” doesn’t have enough reviews for a Metacritic score, we refer to the base game. It has received mixed to positive reviews, scoring 73. Reviewers mainly criticize the often clunky controls–a common issue for RTS games on consoles. However, the deep and historical portrayal of the battles is positively noted.

Lamentum

A pixel-art horror game set in mid-19th century New England. Young aristocrat Victor Hartwell must find a way to save his sick wife. The last hope lies in the dark corridors and eerie catacombs of Grau Hill Manor. In search of a cure, Victor encounters mutated creatures and monsters not of this world.

“Lamentum” hasn’t received enough reviews for the Xbox version, so we refer to the PC version. It has mixed reviews, scoring 74. Some criticism is directed at the developers for seemingly drawing too much inspiration from older Resident Evil and Silent Hill titles, making the puzzles and mechanics feel familiar. Nevertheless, the game exudes a retro horror vibe and is a must-have for fans of the genre, according to reviewers.

These Were the Free Xbox Games in February

In January, there were two video games available through “Games with Gold” for the Xbox–only one of them remains available. You can download “Guts N Goals” until March 15.

Guts N Goals

Availability: February 16 to March 15

There’s not much to say about “Guts N Goals.” One critic sums it up aptly: “A game that’s basically Rocket League where everyone has gotten out of their cars and is swinging baseball bats.” The goal of the arcade game is to score in the opponent’s goal while beating up other players. Each stadium has its own mechanics, and mini-games provide additional distractions. Players can choose from 30 heroes with different abilities–but beware: random mechanics can influence the game at any time.

The game, released in 2021, hasn’t received enough reviews for a Metascore. However, on Steam, users rate it “Positive” with an average of 8 out of 10 stars. While the fun factor is praised, the game mechanics receive some criticism. As simple as the underlying concept is, the gameplay sometimes feels underdeveloped.

How to Redeem the Free Xbox Games

To download directly via the console, look for the corresponding tile for Xbox Live Gold or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate on the Xbox home screen. The games will be available for download in the menu during the specified period.

Alternatively, the “Games with Gold” titles are also available online. In the menu under the same name, the free Xbox games are listed. By redeeming them via the button, they are ready for download as soon as you log in with your Xbox. However, for both options, it’s necessary to provide credit card information, just like with paid games. During the specified period, Microsoft will not charge for the game.
