This week in Cologne, the ANGA COM is taking place, where the Berlin-based manufacturer AVM is unveiling several new devices. Among them is an outdoor Wi-Fi repeater and several new Wi-Fi 7 routers. AVM is also showcasing some of its already well-known devices.
The trade fair in Cologne runs from June 3 to 5 and covers topics related to broadband, television, and online services. AVM, a network equipment provider, traditionally uses ANGA COM to introduce new devices and services. This year, the company is unveiling three new Fritzboxes with Wi-Fi 7 for fiber-optic and DSL connections, as well as new mesh sets and repeaters for indoor and outdoor use. The focus is particularly on AVM’s first outdoor Wi-Fi repeater, the Fritz!Repeater 1610 Outdoor.
Fritz!Repeater 1610 Outdoor Brings Wi-Fi to the Garden
With the Fritz!Repeater 1610 Outdoor, AVM is introducing a device specifically designed for outdoor use for the first time. The housing is IP54 certified, making it resistant to dust and splashing water. The repeater supports the Wi-Fi 6 standard and offers up to 2400 Mbps in the 5 GHz band and up to 600 Mbps in the 2.4 GHz range. Power and data are supplied via a single cable through “Power over Ethernet” (PoE+). Additionally, a Gigabit LAN port is available.
The repeater can be seamlessly integrated into the Fritz! mesh but can also be operated with any standard router via LAN. This makes it suitable not only for home Fritzbox networks but also for third-party networks.
Technical Details:
- Dual-band Wi-Fi repeater extends Wi-Fi range outdoors and indoors
- Wi-Fi Mesh, 2 x 2 on 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz, Wi-Fi 6
- Wi-Fi speed: 5 GHz: up to 2400 Mbps; 2.4 GHz: up to 600 Mbps (Wi-Fi 6)
- 1 Gbps LAN port for cable connection or connecting network-enabled devices
- Supports Power over Ethernet (PoE+), also perfectly suited for existing PoE installations indoors
- WPA3 encryption
- Usable with any internet router via LAN
- IP54 certified housing (protected outdoor area)

News on Fritz!OS 8.20
AVM is also providing a preview of the upcoming major firmware update to Fritz!OS 8.20 at the fair. The new software is expected in late summer and targets nearly the entire AVM product range, including Fritzboxes, repeaters, DECT phones, and powerline adapters. Fritz!OS 8.230 brings numerous innovations that AVM is already testing in various lab versions. Among them is the new failover protection. If the internet connection is unstable, a second Fritzbox automatically takes over via mobile broadband. An exact release date for the update has not yet been set.
