At IFA 2025 in Berlin, Fritz!–formerly AVM–unveils the successor to the successful Fritzbox 6690 Cable. The similarly named Fritzbox 6690 Pro introduces the next Wi-Fi standard, Wi-Fi 7, and aims to set benchmarks as an all-in-one router for cable connections–including a smart home hub and cutting-edge technology.
According to the manufacturer, the new router is the world’s first integrated cable gateway with a high-speed modem and supports the new Wi-Fi 7 standard. Data transmission occurs over the three frequency bands: 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and for the first time, 6 GHz. This is expected to enable significantly higher Wi-Fi speeds and a more stable connection.
Tri-Band Wi-Fi, Mesh, and Gigabit Ports
The Fritzbox 6690 Pro operates with tri-band technology and, according to the manufacturer, offers a theoretical Wi-Fi speed of up to 5,760 megabits per second on both the 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands. On the 2.4 GHz band, it reaches up to 688 megabits per second. The device supports mesh networking, providing optimal coverage throughout the home.
In addition to a 2.5-gigabit WAN/LAN port, there are also three additional LAN ports, each with 1 gigabit. Two USB 3.0 ports allow for the connection of storage devices and printers.
Integrated Telephony and Smart Home Functions
The Fritzbox 6690 Pro also shows versatility in telephony. It supports DECT for cordless phones, IP/SIP telephony, and also offers an analog connection via FXS. The DECT ULE and Zigbee functions enable integration into the smart home, such as controlling lights or sensors. The box is also prepared for the new smart home standard, Matter.
