Podcasts accompany many people through daily life, such as during breakfast or on the way to work. If you can’t get enough of a show, you can now unlock additional content on Spotify. The streaming service is expanding its payment model with new membership packages. These incur additional costs, regardless of whether you use Spotify for free or are already a Premium subscriber.
Up to Three Packages per Podcast
Spotify is gradually introducing the new memberships in 34 markets, including Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Paid podcast subscriptions already existed, allowing listeners to receive exclusive episodes, for example.
What’s new is that the creators of a show can now offer up to three different packages simultaneously. These can vary in both price and scope of services. This allows podcast providers to decide which additional content they offer in each membership. Podcast creators receive 90 percent of the revenue before taxes.

The benefits of a paid package are determined by the creators of the respective podcast. Possible perks include additional episodes or exclusive videos. New releases may also be available to paying members earlier. A package can also provide access to older episodes.

Another potential benefit is less advertising. However, a podcast does not have to be completely ad-free despite membership. Ads that the creators themselves integrate into their show may still be included.
How to Book and Cancel Packages
If you want to sign up for a podcast membership, you can find it on the Spotify page of the respective show. There, you can either select the membership notice or a locked episode. Then, choose the desired package and complete the purchase. The unlocked content is then available directly on Spotify.
However, it’s important to note: The membership automatically renews unless it is canceled in time. To cancel, go to spotify.com/account and select “Podcast Memberships.” You can then open the relevant offer and end it via “Cancel Membership.” Alternatively, cancellation is possible through a link in the confirmation email. Already paid content remains available until the end of the respective period.
