The year-end review on Spotify doesn’t always reflect actual music tastes. A new update aims to change that.
Anyone who regularly plays children’s songs, sleep music, or tracks from animated films on Spotify knows the issue: Over time, these titles not only appear in music recommendations but also influence the personal year-end review, Spotify Wrapped. As a result, the analysis often only partially reflects one’s listening habits.

Spotify is introducing a new setting that allows music from the “Kids & Family” category to be excluded from the personal taste profile. The feature has been rolling out since September 15, 2026, and is primarily aimed at families using a shared account.
Recommendations are set to become more accurate again
When the new option is activated, content from the “Kids & Family” section can still be played, searched, and added to playlists as usual. However, these plays will no longer be included in the calculation of personalized features.
This affects Discover Weekly, Daily Mixes, and Spotify Wrapped, among others. According to the company, the recommendations will again be more closely aligned with users’ actual music preferences. Previously, many parents used the “Private Session” feature for this purpose, which had to be reactivated after each use.
The feature even works retroactively
The new setting can be found in the Spotify app under “Settings and Privacy” and then in the “Content and Display” section. There, you can specify whether music from the “Kids & Family” category should influence the personal taste profile.
One particularly interesting detail: According to Spotify, the change also applies to previously played content. Children’s music that was played in the past will no longer be considered for recommendations or Spotify Wrapped. According to Spotify, it may take up to 48 hours for the adjustments to be fully implemented.
