It’s a back-and-forth with advertising on YouTube. First, there’s too much, and then promises of improvement are made. Now, YouTube is planning “Peak Points”—advertising at special moments.
Advertising is economically important and therefore necessary. But it can be quite annoying. Even on various streaming platforms, there are many ads, whether as video or just audio. Typically, you need to subscribe to a paid plan to get rid of them. However, those who want to watch videos for free on YouTube will see ads at special points in the future. YouTube is planning so-called “Peak Points” ad placement. TECHBOOK explains what this is all about.
YouTube “Peak Points” at Particularly Exciting Moments
YouTube users who access the vast video offerings without paying will have to bite the advertising bullet. The company responsible, Google, introduced more ads in fall 2024, which unsurprisingly angered viewers. They then promised improvement—pledging to make ad clips less intrusive.
In the new Brandcast 2025, they have now unveiled the plan to introduce YouTube “Peak Points.” These special highlights are intended to be the “most significant” or exciting moments in a popular video. Advertisers will be able to place their ads at these points in the future, as these are the times when the audience is most engaged with the content.

YouTube Ad Placement with AI Support
To identify the right spots, Google’s in-house AI development, Gemini, will be used. It will analyze the respective videos and identify the points where strong audience reactions can be expected. Ads will appear exactly then or immediately afterward.
Google has not yet announced when advertising for YouTube “Peak Points” will start. However, users seem to be facing the next annoying development, which they can only avoid legally with a paid subscription.
