Do you know the feeling? It seems like Netflix always promotes the same series and movies. But hidden in the depths of its catalog are many more titles worth watching. So how can you find them? The answer is Netflix codes. TECHBOOK explains how they work.

The Netflix algorithm is supposed to suggest suitable movies and series to users. However, it often feels like the same series and movies are always displayed on the homepage. If you want to watch something different, you either have to search specifically for titles and genres or browse the menu at random. The problem here is that the search is based on a specific keyword. If content isn’t tagged with it, it remains hidden. But there is a solution. With certain Netflix codes, you can specifically search for different genres. Whether horror films, romantic comedies, military series, or others–if you know the right code, you can get a whole range of suitable suggestions displayed.

How Netflix Codes Work

Netflix has a unique code for each genre. The list is therefore very long. Entering the Netflix codes is done via the browser or alternatively through the search field in the app. Users need to take a small detour via their smartphone, tablet, or PC. In the address bar, they enter the URL “https://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/” plus the respective code. It looks like this:

After entering, users are directed to the Netflix website and prompted to log into their account. Subsequently, the selected genre with all currently available titles is displayed. In the example above, it’s all comedies currently available on Netflix. It looks like this:

Depending on whether users want to search for new series or movies, the respective codes differ.

Some of these codes have been released by Netflix itself, but a large portion has also been compiled by users. The list is sometimes very detailed and extends to very specific genres. Some links only open in certain regions of the world, so they may not be available in Germany. It can also happen that some codes are changed and thus no longer display content.

However, there is a catch despite the vast variety of films: The code trick unfortunately only works on the computer or in the app. A small
