Wow is Sky’s streaming service and the direct successor to Sky Ticket. TECHBOOK presents the subscription model and content of the provider and gives an overview of all the essential information about Sky Wow.
In the summer of 2022, Sky revamped its streaming offering and launched Wow (stylized as WOW). But what exactly does the service offer and at what price?
Overview
A Long Road for Sky to Wow
Streaming subscriptions at Sky don’t necessarily have a long lifespan. Since Sky’s launch in Germany in 2009, the pay-TV provider has repeatedly changed its strategy and, in the process, often renamed its streaming options. Sky Anytime, Sky Home, Sky Go, Sky Ticket–just to name a few, each representing very different concepts around video-on-demand.
This is partly due to the fact that Sky offers not only the usual streaming content in the entertainment sector but also sports. In fact, Sky held an almost monopolistic position in Germany for years regarding soccer (especially the Champions League). As a pay-TV provider, Sky also offers various proprietary channels–a fundamental difference from competitors in the streaming sector. With Wow, they aim to forge new paths and establish a unique name for their streaming division.
With Wow, customers can subscribe independently of Sky’s TV business and hardware. Many U.S. content and, of course, plenty of sports are available–with the appropriate subscription.
Subscriptions and Prices at Wow
Sky’s streaming service Wow operates a completely different subscription model than its competitors. While subscriptions at Netflix, Disney+, and others primarily differ in technical features, Wow’s main distinction lies in the content offered. There are three main subscriptions, each of which can also be booked with the ad-free premium option, which includes some additional technical features.
- Series: 7.99 euros per month
- Movies + Series: 9.98 euros per month
- Live Sports: 29.99 euros per month
- Premium: Additional 5 euros per month for features such as Full HD and parallel streams
The premium subscription offers Wow customers the only option for Full HD resolution. Improved sound with Dolby 5.1 is also included. We’ve listed all the details of the individual subscriptions for you:
Even though the strategy may change temporarily, Sky generally offers a trial subscription for Wow. While not entirely free, it is at least reduced in price. Additionally, new customers have the option to test the premium subscription for free for one week.
What You Can Watch on Wow
As mentioned earlier, Wow offers both entertainment content and sports, linked to the programming of its parent company Sky. In terms of movies and series, there is a slight focus on U.S. content. A core part of the portfolio is the productions from HBO, which Wow offers exclusively in Germany because HBO’s own service–Max (formerly HBO Max)–is not available here. This includes well-known series like “Game of Thrones,” the spin-off “House of the Dragon,” “The Last of Us,” or “Succession.” Many movies also make their streaming debut on Wow. Occasionally, Wow or Sky produces its own exclusive content, such as documentaries.
Another important element is the sports content. Wow’s Live Sports subscription includes games from the German Bundesliga and the 2nd League, as well as matches from the Premier League and the DFB-Pokal. Besides soccer, the streaming service also offers motorsports (such as Formula 1), ice hockey (NHL), tennis, and much more.

How to Cancel Sky Wow
If you’ve decided to cancel your Wow subscription with Sky, you can do so through your customer account. Follow these steps:
- Go to the settings of your customer account by first clicking on “My Account” in the menu and then on “Account Overview.”
- In the next tab, you’ll find the “My Subscriptions” section, right next to the billing area with the next payment date. The earliest possible cancellation date depends on the booked package and can also be viewed there.
- In the “My Subscriptions” tab, all Wow packages you have booked are listed. In each package, you’ll find the “End Subscription” button.
This way, you can cancel the packages individually or all together to have no subscription with the streaming service anymore.
