As a fan, you might sometimes feel that series projects are being canceled left and right. However, in special cases, a comeback is still possible–in this specific instance, about ten years after the original end. As it is now being reported, the series “Girls” is getting a late seventh season.
“Girls” Series Gets Five New Episodes
This is now being reported by industry magazine “Variety.” According to them, the U.S. broadcaster HBO has ordered a shorter, seventh season for the series “Girls” nearly ten years after the end of the sixth season.
Instead of the usual ten episodes (season 3 had twelve), the continuation will be a half-length endeavor with only five episodes. However, the return of the four main actresses Lena Dunham as Hannah Horvath, Allison Williams as Marnie Michaels, Jemima Kirke as Jessa Johansson, and Zosia Mamet as Shoshanna Shapiro is officially confirmed. Andrew Rannells will also return as Elijah Krantz.
Dunham remains the central figure, as she is the creator, showrunner, and one of the stars of the series “Girls.” She receives support from well-known comedy director and producer Judd Apatow.

“Star Wars” Star Likely Not Returning
Notably absent from the announcement are two previously important names. Former co-star Adam Driver, known to a wider audience from the recent “Star Wars” trilogy, seems not to be returning. Previous co-showrunner and executive producer Jenni Konner is also not mentioned.
While the specific reasons for their absence remain unknown, there are at least clear indications. Dunham revealed in her memoirs that she had significant difficulties with both over the years. Driver reportedly behaved aggressively on set at times, while Konner increasingly distanced herself.
What It Could Be About
There are no specific plot details for the new episodes of the “Girls” series. However, based on previous considerations and hints, it seems likely that the characters will have to deal with aging as they all reach their 40s, start families, and face other challenges.

Filming is not set to begin until 2027. There is no start date yet, but it is already confirmed that the new episodes will appear on HBO Max.
“Girls” originally aired from 2012 to 2017 for six seasons and 62 episodes. During that time, the series received 19 Emmy nominations, winning two. Considered a response to “Sex and the City,” it is widely regarded as one of the greatest series of all time, although it was sometimes controversial.
