“Oh my God! They killed Kenny!” “You bastards!” Many series fans are likely familiar with this running gag, as it graces numerous, especially earlier, episodes of “South Park.” The animated series has been around since 1997 and launched in Germany in 1999 with great hype. The rest is history: There are 26 seasons so far, and a 27th is already in the works. Those who want to stream it can still do so on various platforms, but probably not for much longer. “South Park” is set to move exclusively to Paramount+ in the coming years, for which the provider will pay a hefty sum.
“South Park” Exclusive to Paramount+ Thanks to Billion-Dollar Deal
This is now reported by the “Los Angeles Times.” According to the report, series creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have reached an agreement with Paramount after tough negotiations. “South Park” will come exclusively to Paramount+ because the studio responsible for the service has secured the worldwide streaming rights.
The agreement is initially valid for five years and is valued at $300 million annually. This means the total sum is expected to reach a staggering $1.5 billion, according to unnamed insiders. This deal makes the series one of the most valuable TV brands worldwide.
Official statements are not yet available, and the industry magazine “Variety” has made inquiries but received no responses. This could be because the deal is reportedly not yet finalized.

More “South Park” Only for Paramount+ Customers
Currently, “South Park” is available in Germany on Paramount+, Joyn, and Pluto TV for free. With the new deal, this is likely to change soon, and “South Park” will only be available on Paramount+. For fans, the subscription will be worth it, as Parker and Stone have agreed to produce ten new episodes per year as part of the deal.
For “South Park,” the agreement marks a homecoming. Paramount, through its TV channel Comedy Central, has always been the original home of the series. However, in 2019, previous Paramount managers licensed it to HBO Max while Paramount+ was still in development. When the in-house service launched, “South Park” was missing as a flagship. The HBO deal ended in June.
HBO Max Comes Up Empty
According to the report, Paramount offered a co-licensing deal in the spring. This would have allowed “South Park” to appear on both Paramount+ and HBO Max. However, the talks recently broke down, so Paramount is now going it alone. As a result, the German market will also miss out, as HBO Max is set to launch there in 2026.
The new “South Park” deal for Paramount+ is groundbreaking due to the massive sum, but it could have been much larger. According to “Variety,” an initial plan was for ten years and $3 billion. However, as Skydance is in the active process of acquiring Paramount, executives there vetoed it. This delayed negotiations, even causing the premiere of the 27th season to be postponed.
In addition to the exclusive streaming rights, further negotiations are currently underway. Parker and Stone want to renew their pact with Paramount for series production for Comedy Central. The current contract was signed in 2021, runs until 2027, and is valued at $900 million.
