A lot can happen or be forgotten in 60 years, and only the most impressive events or achievements remain. In the long history of film, there are many classics that have endured to this day and are rightly considered classics. And since Hollywood loves to revive old favorites, some of them even get a chance at a second life. Now, a series based on Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds” is in the works.
Horror Classic “The Birds” to Be Remade as a Series
The filmography of the legendary director is filled with influential milestones in cinema. He left a lasting mark, especially on the thriller and horror genres. Alongside works like “Psycho” and “Rear Window,” “The Birds” from 1963 is among his most famous films. According to the U.S. magazine “Deadline,” a series is now being developed.
The “The Birds” series is planned as a miniseries. This means the first and only season will be limited in scope, and a continuation is generally not expected. Universal International Studios is responsible for the project, but it’s still too early for a release date.

First Stars and Plot Details Revealed
Some initial casting details have already been announced. Sarah Snook (“Succession”) is set to take on the lead role, following in the footsteps of Tippi Hedren. Tom Spezialy (“Watchmen”) is on board as the screenwriter. Unlike the 1952 book, where the story was set in Cornwall, and Hitchcock’s film (Bodega Bay, California), this time the setting will be a remote location in Alaska.
Judge Myra Massey (Snook) returns to her hometown one day to take on a murder case. She expects it to be a routine matter. Instead, she finds her childhood friend with multiple gunshot wounds. During her investigation, nature suddenly turns against her–in the form of aggressive birds.
Will Sky Get “The Birds” Series?
The project is still in its early stages, and filming has not yet begun. It’s also unclear which streaming service will air “The Birds” series. As a Universal project, an initial release on the company’s own service, Peacock, is conceivable in the U.S. In Germany, Sky/Wow is the logical choice, as they just signed a licensing deal with NBCUniversal in the summer of 2025.
