Two of the biggest film stars of their generation are reuniting for a late sequel to a cult film. We’re talking about “Practical Magic 2” with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman.
The 1990s produced numerous film classics, both big and small, that still have many fans today. Some of them rightfully went down in history. Others may not have seemed like a big hit at first but managed to establish a loyal fan base over the years. “Practical Magic,” starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, definitely falls into the latter category. The film was panned by critics at the time and turned out to be a commercial flop—but many people still love it today. That’s why “Practical Magic 2” is now in the works.
“Practical Magic 2” Coming in 2026
The sequel will hit theaters nearly 30 years after the original from 1998. According to the U.S. industry magazine “Variety,” “Practical Magic 2” is currently set to be released in U.S. theaters on September 18, 2026. The German release date is currently set for September 17, one day earlier. In an initial announcement on X, the voices of the stars can already be heard.
Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman return for the project as magical sisters from a long line of witches. In the first film, they try to break a curse that kills the men they fall in love with. The exact plot of “Practical Magic 2” is still largely unknown. However, since the original was based on one of the books by Gillian Owens, the sequel is rumored to also be an adaptation of the book series. At least there’s already a hint.
Netflix Star Joins the Cast
According to a report by “The Hollywood Reporter,” Bullock and Kidman will receive prominent support from Joey King. The young acting star has made a name for herself recently through the “Kissing Booth” films on Netflix and is set to play Bullock’s character Sally’s daughter in “Practical Magic 2.” In this role, she will uncover dark family secrets and discover her own sinister powers, plunging the family into crisis.

This time, Danish director Susanne Bier will take the director’s chair, having previously worked with Bullock on the Netflix thriller “Bird Box.” Akiva Goldsman is contributing the screenplay and also wrote for the predecessor. In addition to their leading roles, Kidman and Bullock will also serve as producers.
It’s not the first time Warner has attempted to continue “Practical Magic.” Plans for a prequel series were made back in 2019, but ultimately nothing came of it.
